Gardner founded The Clean Team in 2020 after moving to the Lake Erie area from Iowa with her three sons, Taylor, Brody, and Oakley. The company provides residential and commercial cleaning, vacation rental turnovers, tenant and post-construction cleaning, and specialized deep-cleaning services. Its partnership with Cleaning for a Reason extends that work to households dealing with cancer treatment.
Cleaning for a Reason is a nonprofit that arranges residential cleaning services for people undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. According to information published by The Clean Team, the organization has served more than 41,223 cancer patients and donated more than $14,131,616 in cleaning services. The Clean Team participates by scheduling complimentary cleanings for eligible patients in its service area.

Gardner has said the initiative is connected to her own experience with lymphoma and chemotherapy more than a decade ago.
