-- On August 16, an event for the unveiling and award of the ZERO-CARBON FACTORY and the release of a sustainability initiative—under the theme “ZERO-CARBON DRIVE & SMART-ORIENTED FUTURE”—was held at Weichai’s Digital Industrial Park. At the event, the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC) presented Weichai with the industry’s first “ZERO-CARBON FACTORY” certificate for internal combustion engines.
ZERO-CARBON FACTORY represents an advanced stage of green manufacturing. It refers to a company’s achievement of net-zero carbon emissions through its own emissions reductions and carbon offsetting. Since the Digital Industrial Park was established in 2021, it has been anchored to a zero-carbon goal. By leveraging key technologies such as wind, solar, energy storage, hydrogen, and waste/unused energy utilization, the park reduces carbon emissions at the source. It also builds an integrated management model characterized by reducing carbon at the source, cutting carbon throughout processes, and intelligently controlling carbon, and ultimately achieves 100% carbon neutrality through the offsetting of carbon credits.
Green and low-carbon transformation is not a solitary effort by a single enterprise; it is a systemic transformation spanning the entire industrial chain and value chain. As a chain-leading company in the power equipment manufacturing sector, Weichai, together with EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) experts and representatives from domestic and international partners present at the event, jointly issued a green sustainability initiative:
- Deepen green innovation and explore new zero-carbon industry tracks;
- Create greener products and reshape low-carbon genes across the full lifecycle;
- Practice green operations and paint a new blueprint for a green supply chain;
- Upgrade green services to strengthen the foundation of mutual trust in cooperation;
- Build a greener future together and embark on a new journey toward sustainable development.
Since launching carbon management in 2020, Weichai has successively been recognized as a national green factory and a domestic carbon peak leader enterprise, among other honors. It also made the Forbes China ESG50 list for 2024, won the 2025 International Green Design Award, and completed the first carbon management system certification in the internal combustion engine industry. The establishment of the ZERO-CARBON FACTORY is yet another vivid practice of Weichai’s commitment to green development. Looking ahead, Weichai will align with China’s “dual carbon” strategic goals, consolidate the achievements in the ZERO-CARBON FACTORY initiative, further improve its carbon management capabilities, and—by fulfilling a leadership role—guide the industry’s green upgrading, reshaping the green competitiveness of Made in China.
