Caddie Ching presents a reflective new e-book from B. “The Mad Caddie” Jones, using 18 letters and lessons from the loop to explore resilience, brotherhood, faith, fatherhood, character, and the weight people carry.

-- Caddie Ching has released “Letters from the Loop,” a new digital book by B. “The Mad Caddie” Jones, a Marine Corps veteran and working caddie. Published at a time of renewed discussion about responsibility, character, and the examples men follow, the book uses experiences from golf, military service, work, and family life.

Questions of responsibility and service remain important to how younger men think about adulthood and masculinity. In a 2026 Institute for Family Studies report based on a YouGov survey of 2,000 American men ages 18 to 29, 89% agreed that being a man requires a willingness to sacrifice for others, while 85% associated manhood with strength, responsibility, and leadership.
Those ideas run through “Letters from the Loop,” which is built around a simple observation from Jones’s years as a caddie: carrying the bag is only part of the job. "A caddie also carries expectations and trust, reads the person as carefully as the course, offers guidance when it is needed, and stays alongside the golfer when the round becomes difficult," says B. "The Mad Caddie" Jones. Jones uses that relationship to reflect on similar roles people take on as fathers, brothers, friends, mentors, and leaders.
The 66-page book contains 18 letters from a caddie to his brothers, described as being “on carrying weight, walking beside, and playing the round you were given.” Each letter stands on its own, with subjects ranging from recovering after mistakes and knowing when to offer advice to discipline, grief, gratitude, fatherhood, faith, and the influence people leave behind.
Golf provides a natural setting for those observations. A round lasts long enough for frustration, confidence, impatience, generosity, and humility to surface. In Jones’s telling, mistakes are unavoidable; what matters is how quickly a person can learn from one, leave it behind, and prepare for the next shot.
