Triton Thermal has announced that its Atlas One platform uses single-phase immersion cooling to remove the thermal ceiling on air-cooled AI racks, allowing accelerators to hold full performance at much higher rack densities.

-- Triton Thermal, a Houston-based provider of liquid cooling engineering and services for data centers, has announced its Atlas One platform that uses single-phase immersion cooling to remove the thermal ceiling that limits air-cooled AI infrastructure. The approach allows GPUs and other accelerators to hold full performance at much higher rack densities than air cooling can support.

Rack power has climbed sharply with each generation of AI hardware. According to a July 2024 analysis by SemiAnalysis, the newer rack models require approximately 120 kW, compared with about 40 kW for the higher-density air-cooled H100 racks that preceded them. This is putting a greater emphasis on sourcing alternative cooling options, explains Triton Thermal.
The company also notes that air cooling stops working at roughly 40 to 50 kW per rack, and the constraint is airflow rather than heat tolerance, so a rack at that density needs up to 5,000 cubic feet per minute of air, more than fans and containment can practically deliver. When that limit is reached, accelerators do not fail outright. They throttle, lowering their own clock speeds to protect themselves, so the hardware keeps running but delivers less compute than was purchased.
Atlas One avoids this limit by submerging hardware in a dielectric fluid that stays in direct contact with every heat-generating component. Because cooling capacity depends on the fluid rather than on the volume of air a room can move, airflow no longer sets the ceiling, and accelerators can maintain sustained boost clocks rather than short-lived peak clocks that fall away as heat builds.
Its architecture avoids the field-built ductwork and airflow engineering that air cooling demands at scale. Triton Thermal describes its single-phase immersion systems as capable of supporting racks exceeding 100 kW and reducing cooling energy use by up to 50 percent compared with air cooling.
Atlas One sits within Triton Thermal's broader portfolio of data center cooling services, which covers assessment of existing facilities, design of new builds, vendor-neutral system selection, and ongoing support.
