About John Andrew Rutherford
Mr. Rutherford began his aviation career at 18 with Lufthansa German Airlines. His curiosity and work ethic helped him rise quickly through the ranks. By age 25, he was a manager overseeing flight operations and special projects, taking him to developing regions across Africa and the Middle East. These early experiences gave him valuable knowledge of global aviation and international business.
After his success at Lufthansa, Mr. Rutherford joined Saudi Arabian Airlines, where he spent more than 15 years shaping the company's business structure and advancing its technology systems. As manager of marketing automation and later manager of revenue management, he helped the airline modernize operations and strengthen profitability. His leadership during this period played a major role in making Saudi Arabian Airlines one of the leading carriers in the Middle East.
Mr. Rutherford later joined PROS, a technology company in Houston that specializes in artificial intelligence and data-driven pricing for many industries, including major airlines. When he started, the company had fewer than 70 employees. With his guidance, it grew into a global leader that is publicly listed. One of his proudest accomplishments was leading a major project in the 1990s with Swissair, Austrian Airlines and Sabena. His team successfully fixed a failing technology system, and helping PROS establish a strong reputation in the aviation world.
From 2011 to 2020, Mr. Rutherford worked as regional vice president of travel sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at PROS, based in Dubai. Today, he continues to shape the future of aviation as head of global sales and partner networks at Anxilla, a global software company. He also advises new airlines and technology startups, helping them develop strategies that use AI to improve efficiency and customer experience.
Creating Stories and Inspiring Others
Beyond aviation, Mr. Rutherford has dedicated his more recent years to writing. He is the author of more than 60 books available on Amazon and other online book retailers. His children's stories, including "Madooree - World of Klim & Marec," "Basil the Fireman Dragon," "Magic Garden" and "Mynewta - The Hummingbird," blend imagination and education, teaching moral lessons through whimsical characters. He has also written for young adults and adults, including "Rebecca Series," "The Idiom Series," and "Fobia Force". The "Cupid's Chronicles Series," "Chronicles of a Working Life" and "Reflecting on Days of Future Past" retell stories of his past travels and interesting and varied working assignments. He recently published his latest novel, "Seven Cats of Kubbeli Evler," which was entered in the 2025 Amazon KDP Storyteller competition. He has won numerous awards for his storytelling endeavors.
Academically, Mr. Rutherford holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and management from the Open University in London. He has earned multiple professional certifications from Lufthansa, British Airways, PROS and Saudi Arabian Airlines and has been a member of the Professional Pricing Society since 2000.
