During his 17 years at Intel, he developed one of the world's most area- and energy-efficient Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) engines and co-invented the Intel AES-NI instruction set, which significantly accelerated encryption technology, earning him an Intel Achievement Award in 2008.

Today, Dr. Kounavis serves as a software engineer at Meta in New York, where he focuses on machine learning and predictive analytics, a key branch of artificial intelligence. His work explores how advanced algorithms can make better recommendations. Such systems drive the revenue engines of major global platforms. He views AI as a powerful tool to amplify human creativity, enabling knowledge workers to automate repetitive tasks and devote more time to original ideas. Alongside his technical work, he is pursuing an executive MBA at the Villanova School of Business to strengthen his leadership and strategic skills.
